Turning Risk into Redundancy
Client is a top 3 Multi-National Pharmaceutical/Consumer/Healthcare Company.
IPS built a state-of-the-art custom laboratory to support and expand client’s critical R&D and Stability operations during the COVID pandemic (2020). The IPS Laboratory was built in less than 90 days and fully functional in 6 months with new instrumentation sourced globally. The business model was a dedicated next-generation contract laboratory with full transparency and access to live data by the client. All data was stored on secure IPS servers on U.S. Soil. IPS prohibited any cloud-based operations to preserve data integrity and confidentiality.

Critical capacity and utilization challenges:
- All testing was performed in-house, with throughput constrained by limited instrument and analyst availability.
- No redundancy across critical operations, increasing risk and multiple points of failure.
- Inefficiencies driven by insufficient laboratory space and instrument capacity.
- Gaps in scientific expertise, unclear accountability, and inconsistent training standards.
IPS delivered a fully functional dedicated Build-To-Suit R&D laboratory to provide:
- Expanded functionality of Client Laboratories supporting R&D and associated stability functions.
- Direct data access and entry into Client ELN.
- Modular laboratory design for rapid retooling with space to expand.
- IPS pioneered automation processes to increase output and decrease analyst error.
- Introduction of new instrumentation to increase capabilities and eliminate antiquated techniques and methodologies.
- Developed new methods and implemented new technologies to modernize analytical capability and understanding.
- Full redundancy was established, eliminating R&D pipeline risk.
- All IPS Laboratory employees were established as SMEs on all the technologies from cross-training and continued to train client’s scientific staff.
- The IPS Laboratory Model proved a significant increase in efficiency and cost savings – resulting in an unparalleled increase in meaningful R&D while saving millions of dollars annually.
